When was the last time that you did a "Roast Beef Session" with your staff?
who after dating a man she liked very much, invited him over for a lovely home made Roast Beef Dinner. After the meal was served she asked him, "Did you enjoy dinner?" "Yes, very much", he replied...but I do have one question: " Why did you cut the sides of the Roast Beef off?" The young lady replied, "Because my mother always did that." Suddenly aware of this fact, she called her mother the next day and inquired as to why she always cut the sides off the Roast Beef. Her mother told her that her mother had always done it this way and suggested that she called her Grandmother. Upon questioning, Grandma replied, "Because my oven was too small!"
In every business I've run, we had "Roast Beef Sessions" on a regular basis.
When it comes to systems and procedures, I am always asking, "Why are we doing what we're doing?" If we are unable to justify the reason for doing the task in a particular way, we either update the procedure or drop it. By the same token, a company's CEO should be reviewing all expenses on a regular basis to see if there is any way to decrease or eliminate the expense.
My math teacher in High School was the men's basketball coach. He always said, "The shortest distance between two points, is a straight line." The very same principals must be applied to streamlining all operations, procedures and expenses. Someone who is not involved with the day to day operations of a business often has a more objective view.

What's your Why?
Once you know why your doing what your doing, it is much easier to come up with a game plan of how to achieve what you want.
So... what's your why?
Why are you willing to pursue what others only dream about doing?
Why are you willing to put the security of a 8-5 job aside and pour you heart, your time, money and resources into a venture?
What is your Heart's Desire? If you had all the money in the world, what would you do? Why aren't you doing it now? Are you here to help others? Are you filled with a sense of purpose? Are you living your dream now or is your dream retirement in Maui?
I was in the post office a number of years ago and overheard one of the counter clerks, a man in his 50's say, "5 years, 6 months, 4 days till retirement." I'm not sure he made it. That sound like a prison sentence to me, not a life.
Here's a little secret ...there is no guarantee that once you breath out, that your going to breath in again. You cannot breath - in the past and you cannot breath - in the future, You can only breath in the Present. My father has a banner over his desk his entire life: "Life is Not a Rehearsal".

This is it. There is the only NOW.
Are you ready to stop thinking about your Dream and start LIVING your Dream?
Are you a delegator, a visionary, a Strategic Planner, a Tactical genius? Do you like to create things, but don't like running them? Are you highly organized, but have HR problems? Are you happy and fulfilled or burned out, stressed out and worried about making the next payroll?
Is your business planned to be a lifestyle business? How is your lifestyle? Are you working 80 hours a week, putting your health, marriage, relationships and dreams on hold while your doing it, doing it, doing it?
How balanced is your life? Here's a little secret that you already know: Success is the progressive realization of your goals. Success is not a destination, its about the ride. How's your ride? Bumpy or comfortable? When you wake up the morning, are you eager to greet the day or full of dread? At the end of the day are you fulfilled?
I used to think that I could and should do it all by myself. Now I understand that Success is a team effort. Every individual who won a metal at the last Olympics had a team, a network of support. You can't do it alone, you need an A-Z team: Accountant, Banker, Consultant, Designer, Electrician...
Miracle working? Rarely am I able to snap my fingers and Presto...you have everything you want. Every great goal worth attaining takes Strategic Planning and then Work, to implement, to correct and continue. I have a knack for looking at your dream, your business, your goals and seeing what the assets and liabilitiesare in your vision, your team, your systems, your plan.
